PPO (Preferred Provider Organization)

« Back to Glossary Index

A flexible plan with a larger network of doctors. You do not need a referral to see a specialist, and you have the freedom to see out-of-network doctors (though staying in-network costs less). This flexibility usually means higher monthly premiums.

Note. Some PPOs have underlying HMO style rules.
