« Back to Glossary Index

A two-character code (usually numbers or letters) tacked onto the end of a medical billing code (CPT code). It gives the insurance company extra, necessary details about the service. For example, a modifier might tell the insurance company, “This therapy session was done via telehealth instead of in the office.”
